Handy Hints to Happy Hiking
- Wear suitable clothing
ie be prepared for all kinds of weather (cold and wet, hot and
sunny) take waterproofs in Winter and extra layers of warm clothes, dont
forget a sunhat and sunscreen in Summer.
- Walking boots
are usually a must for good grip and to prevent the feet becoming too tired.
- Where possible car
sharing is encouraged. This will certainly ease car park congestion
and assist as our numbers increase.
- Keep in step with your
leader the leaders plan the walks carefully including suitable
stops for coffee, lunch, and tea.
- We plan to have a back
marker make sure you know who that is, they could be useful!
- When road walking listen for
cars
- If a vehicle approaches on a
single-track road then we should walk on one
side, following the leader.
- On a road walk on the
outside of a bend you will see what is coming and they will see
you!
- Help each other by
looking out try not to get out of sight of the person behind you.
- Be aware of others
eg the leader or back marker might get lonely.
- Single file
this is necessary beside a road and in a field with crops we dont want to
leave behind some upset farmers.
